At Upstate Recovery Center, we believe that an on-going commitment to education and training is essential to maintaining the highest level of treatment for our clients. Our Licensed Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselor have certifications in the following areas: Sex Addiction, Clinical Partner Specialist, EMDR, Counseling, SP Practitioner (Level 1), and Diversity FaciliTrainer. With over 20 years of experience in the field of social work, Ms. McGuire has worked with the Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Social Services, Department of Mental Health and the Continuum of Care. She was awarded Clinician of the Year in 2009 while working for a local non-profit.
Since 2007, Ms. McGuire has focused her experience on working with adolescents and adults with problematic sexual behaviors. She also is passionate about working with military members (former and active) and first responders to address and heal from trauma-related issues.
Ms. McGuire holds a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Political Science from Presbyterian College.
Prior to beginning private practice in 2010, Ms. Hull-Kimball served for six years as a clinical liaison for the Department of Juvenile Justice and Mental Health. She is recognized as a mental health expert for Greenville County Court and has been previously recognized by her peers at The Greenville Mental Health Center as the Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapist of the Year.
Additional experiences includes working with Juvenile Drug Court; providing psycho-educational information and therapeutic support for parents of teens dealing with substance abuse issues; and working with a local hospice providing loss and grief counseling for terminally ill patients and their families.
Ms. Hull-Kimball has been a practicing clinician since 2002. She holds a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Converse College. Ms. Hull-Kimball completed her licensure as an LISW-CP Supervisor in 2008.
Kateryna Barnes is a License Professional Counselor (Missouri and South Carolina) and National Certified Counselor. In her tenure as a mental health professional, Ms. Barnes has served diverse populations in multiple settings, to include: school-based (k-12), residential, community mental health and higher education environments. Proficient in four languages (Ukrainian, Russian, French and English), Ms. Barnes has provided culturally competent clinical services to help people from all walks of life to obtain access to mental health services.
Ms. Barnes offers person-centered approach focusing on client’s strengths and feedback informed treatment. She is skilled in utilizing a wide range of evidence-based interventions, which include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Somatic), Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy/Theraplay, and Art Therapy. As a strong generalist, Ms. Barnes therapeutic interests include a range of mental health issues and complications in individual, couples and families.
In addition to her breadth of clinical expertise, Ms. Barnes has obtained extensive training in trauma-informed approaches, including somatic (body-based) interventions. Besides her work as a psychotherapist, Ms. Barnes is a certified diversity advocate and educator (Certified Diversity Facilitrainer) helping make our world a safer place for all.
